Walgreens RRs

-See Follow Up Post Here-
PLEASE READ CONCERNING WALGREENS RRS
I have gotten dozens of emails lately about people using RRs and not getting RRs back at Walgreens. This should not be the case (according to what I know) so I cannot understand why it is happening to a select few of you. I have called corporate, to ask them the question, and have YET to receive a phone call back. So while I wait, if anyone has advice, please leave a comment below. Embarrassingly enough, I HONESTLY have not had the time to set foot in a Walgreens store in a few weeks now so I cannot troubleshoot the situation myself. A lot of you are telling me that the managers are telling you this is a new policy... if this is the case, there is another thing Walgreen is taking away and that makes me disappointed.
.
Remember, you cannot use RRs from an item to buy the same item again and get back RRs. You should, however, be able to use RRs to get more RRs back as long as the items are different.
As always, if you think you should have gotten RRs that did not print, please call the Catalina company to inquiry why. They will be able to answer why.
1-888-826-8766. Option 3 is for consumers.
You can also call Walgreens but you will either get someone who is immediately able to help you or wait on a phone call back as long as I have.
.
Right now, my advice is to use your RRs to buy non RR items so you don't have to worry about loosing the deals.
.
Additional Note: Moms by Heart writes "- You can never use a RR to get a RR for the same product - or for any other product made by the same manufacturer. In the above example, I couldn't take my $10 RR, buy more Robitussin and get another $10. Also, I couldn't use that $10 to purchase something else made by the manufacturer of Robitussin and get more RR's. Be sure if you are "rolling" your RR's into another deal you know who the manufacturers are!" You can see her post Here.

I used 2 RR's (one from the Nivea deal the other week and the other from the Colgate deal this week) on the soda deal yesterday and still got my $5 RR (paid 1.50 oofp). Do you think maybe the problem is if the product you are using your RR with to get RR for another product is that it is possibly the same company therfore not producing the RR. I know it use to be you couldnt use the RR for the same exact product, but possibly it's the company now?! I haven't had this issue yet though.

I have also heard that you need to check and make sure the catalina machine is first of all on and second of all functioning. Also the RR can not be used on a product made by the same company, not just the same product.

The manager at the Walgreens that I use told me that I shouldn't get back RR when I use a coupon on a product! That's the first time that I had heard that before. The RR did print and she gave it to me, but she said that she's going to look into that because it shouldn't be happening. Has anyone else heard that one?

I've just started using my Walgreen's RRs at Harris Teeter, so I don't run into any problems.

Can you use your RR's at other places like CVS, Kroger, or Meijer. I had never heard of that before. Mine also claimed you can't get RR's if you use RR's to pay....um, I've been doing it for months....so yeah. I think I'm done with Walgreens. CVS's program is sooooo much better.

I've only tried using them at Harris Teeter - they accept competitors' coupons! I've never had any trouble using them there.

I have had some issues at Walgreens also, but a little different. I have used manufacture coupons and RR to pay for items, and for some reason, the register won't let one of the coupons be used. The total in coupons/RR will not exceed the amount owed, and on more than one occasion, the cashier tells me I have to buy something else in order to get the deal. So I end up picking up something quick from the rack next to the register just to get the sale to go through. The last time it happened, they told me it was because I was using the two coupons for the same thing (I had 2 V8 Fusion coupons and a RR coupon to buy 2 bottles of V8 Fusion. It should have been a free purchase with no money back. It sort of defeats the purpose of saving money, but I am still ahead in the whole scheme of things. So I don't try to argue it, just pay and go.

I used $5 in register rewards to pay for my items. I did get back register rewards for my specific items that had register rewards, but did NOT get the $2 RR's back for spending $10. When I asked the worker, she said you couldn't get RR's back (for spending a certian amount)when you pay with RR's. That really frustrates me! That is part of the point of shopping there. I really liked Walgreen, but with this policy and no ES catalog, I may be going a LOT less...

also, I wanted to add to my above post that after coupons, and RR's...my total was still $10.88, so I spent $10 out of pocket and that is why I was complaining about NOT getting $2 rr's for spending $10.

my issue isn't with printing RR's, it's with using them. At one Wags, I bought 7/8 items and could only use 2 RR's. The cashier had no idea why and couldn not override it. Today, I went to a diff Wags (they are gonna expire ;-)) and I was able to use 3 of them. Weird. I've read that some stores have programmed their machines differently?

Hi everyone, I am an employee of walgreens and I can tell you exactly how the RR program works. If you have any questions please feel free to ask! my email address is blkdiamondd@aol.com

yeah the employee at my Walgreens told me I would not get a RR if I used a RR to pay for the item. I didn't think that was right but I did not want to risk the chance of not getting the RRs because their prices are horrible if you buy stuff regular price. Anyway, the manager at mine is totally rude to me because I come in every week with my coupons and something always goes wrong (on their end in my opinion, like ringing stuff up wrong, not getting RRs, etc.) I think I am going to be done with them too unless there is some amazing deal i can't resist, their customer service is horrible. (there are one or two nice employees and the rest are rude and make me feel stupid for using coupons). I am interested to find out what the real policy is. Another thing that is annoying is I will ask the employees before I check out if I will get an RR for a certain thing and most of the employees don't even know how it works. If I worked somewhere I would want to know how my own store worked... but that is just me.

Hi - hittingtheslopes: maybe this helps - you cannot have more manufacturers coupons than you have items, and a RR is considered a manu coupon by the register. For example: if you have three items and a manu coupon for each item and you want to pay with a RR, that is 4 coupons. So you need to grab a filler item in order for the RR to be accepted.

Second, you cannot use a RR to pay for something that produces a RR if it's from the same manufacturer. A few months ago, Wags had a RR deal on Oral B toothbrushes and a separate deal for Cascade DW detergent (separate pages in the circular). Since both are made by Procter & Gamble, I couldn't roll the RR from one into the other or the second RR wouldn't spit out. Usually the name of the manufacturer who is sponsoring the register reward is written in the fine print, so you just have to watch it.

Many MANY managers and cashiers don't know how the whole system works so if the RRs arent coming out they give you their best guess as to why. I have three letters from corporate that I take with me to all my shopping trips located at the bottom of my Walgreens 101 post here: http://www.momsbyheart.net/2008/09/walgreens-for-beginners.html

I know I didn't violate the ration rule (of coupons/items) but not sure about the mgr. thing (I'll have to watch that). thanks.

My MIL had an issue where her RRs didn't print out. (She follows all the 'rules'.) She called the Catalina number & the rep told her that their system showed that the RRs printed out. All she received was a Visa advertisement. She is still waiting on a follow-up call from Catalina.

I have been rolling away as usual this week & have not had any problems. Well, one assistant told me that I wouldn't get my RRs b/c I paid with RRs and I just sort of ignored her. My RRs printed out as expected.

I used RR's for the Dr Pepper deal this week and should have got $5 RR's but did not. I told the cashier and she got the manager. I told the manager it did not say anything in the flyer about not getting RR's if you use RR's and she gave me the $5 cash!

I have emailed Walgreens customer service twice in the last 2 weeks and gotten no response. My Walgreens refuses to accept more than 1 RR per transaction.

Erica, I love your site and really appreciate your taking the time to help us. Maybe they will respond to you questions. Thanks! Bonnie

I shop at two Walgreens in my area. At one I can pay with a RR and still get RRs back. At the other I can't - and I'm positive there's no "manufacturer conflict". I asked the assistant manager and she said they had received numerous e-mails from corporate telling them that if a customer uses RRs they will not get any RRs back. When shopping there I always split my transactions into RR deals and non-RR deals.

I have been very frustrated with Walgreens. Yesterday I went to buy toothpaste and deo that were to give RRs. I had a coupon for each. I also picked up some toilet paper that was on sale for which I had a coupon. The manager finally had to come, and she separated my order into two orders. I got my RRs just fine using the coupons also. However, I tried to buy the toilet paper with a coupon and pay partially with old RRs---not the ones I had just received. She said that the computer would not let me use both the RRs ($2.50) and the $1 coupon for the toilet paper. I was so frustrated! Later yesterday, my husband went to another Walgreens, bought the toilet paper and some bread and used the coupon and all our RRs. My biggest problem with Walgreens is that each store seems to have a different policy, and nobody knows exactly what is going on. I have contacted my usual Walgreens manager, and he has apologized, but there is still no clarification.

I am so frustrated with my WAGS store. I had to use 2 stores today because the first one said that I had too many coupons to use my RR. I have never had much of a problem before today. I would of even owed them money after the RR had been applied. Half of the stuff they had on sale was out of stock too, and some they don't even carry and the manager said that they aren't making any subsitutions today for the products they carry even though they are advertising them. It's very strange. I went to another WAGS after I went to store #1 and had no problems using my coupons and my RR. I'm going to start going to that one. They're ALOT nicer too!

I have been going to WAGS forever (never tried CVS until recently) but I am finally fed up and done with them. I used a RR from GlaxoSmithKline on the Kellogg/Kashi cereal sale going on this week. The new $2 RR did not print out. The cashier said that the new word from corporate is that you can't get any new RRs if you use an RR to pay for a transaction (regardless of product, manufacturer, etc). Who the heck knows if this is true or not since they all give different answers! I wrote corporate but regardless of what they say, I am not shopping WAGS anymore. This long-time customer is going to CVS instead.

To top it off, I got home and notice the cereal rang up for the wrong price...

A register reward is counted along with your manufacturer coupons and you cannot use more coupons than items you are buying. That is why you have to buy a "filler" item to be able to use the register reward and manufacturer coupons in the same transaction. For example if you have two items you are buying each with a manufacturer coupon and a register reward, you will need to buy something without a coupon as a filler to be able to use all three.
